Set in the Aztec System, La Famiglia Amalfi concerns a family of Free Traders, the Amalfi, who are based on the colony of Aztec. The younger generation of Amalfis, having come of age, are fitting out their own trading ship when they get word that the ship containing their mothers, fathers, and younger siblings has been found where it shouldn't be, utterly destroyed. There were no survivors found. The head of Customs is convinced it was the loser in a spat between smugglers, but the Amalfis keep out of smuggling, lucrative though it can be....
